FORUM!

A group of seven AIAS members (6 seniors and 1 lone freshman) traveled to Toronto for New Years...and to attend Forum!!! It was an awesome experience for all and here is a short reflection by Alex Tomlinson, AIAS Clemson VP:

This was my first Forum experience with AIAS, and also my first experience in Canada.  I was overwhelmed with how positive and professional the atmosphere was; it was truly a great conference put on by AIAS Ryerson.

Our group was very fortunate in being able to travel around and experience Toronto while also socializing and getting to know fellow peers in architecture from around the nation.  Nearly 1,000 architecture students were in attendance, which is truly a sight to behold.

I was astounded to see how much culture and architecture Toronto had invested in its city; Calatrava, Libeskind, Gehry, and Morphosis are all located within its city limits.  Experiencing so much architecture with fellow students made me realize that I really enjoy the urban experience, and I now know that I wish for my master's degree or future career to take place in an urban setting.

To whoever is reading this blog: if you are AT ALL interested in going on trips with fellow Clemson architecture students, try and go to this year's spring semester South Quad, which will be hosted by AIAS ULL and AIAS LSU in Baton Rouge.  It looks to be a great one!

As you have read, Forum had a lot to offer, and so will South Quad. For more information, please write on the Facebook wall or email us at aiasclemson@gmail.com!

New York...AGAIN!

One of our very own AIAS members who participated in the New York summer studio recently had the chance to go back!  Veronica Acosta shared a some information with us about her awesome experience:

This summer, Clemson University's architecture program had its first ever New York Summer Studio.  With the guidance of professor Dave Lee, 17 students worked closely with the Gowanus Canal Community Development Corporation in Brooklyn to do a rezoning of the entire neighborhood.  Each individual student also designed an Environmental Science Park and Research Center for the neighborhood.

Saturday, October 2nd, GreenHomeNYC hosted a block party in Gowanus to display the latest education, products, and visions for a greener New York City.  Clemson University contributed by presenting the research and proposals generated by the students this summer and received lots of positive feedback.

Clemson is doing great things! For more info on getting involved with fun things like this, contact AIAS at aiasclemson@gmail.com.
